Abstract
The main aim of this chapter is to introduce and explore the role of social work in death, dying, bereavement and loss. We shall do this by first of all theorising what we know about dying before turning to consider how the process is managed, conceptualised and coped with by individuals. The chapter finishes by considering social work practice with people living with life-threatening illness and their families.
