Abstract
The title of this research is “To what extent can therapeutic strategies support children who are experiencing anxiety, in relation to the Covid 19 pandemic?”
The aim of this research project was to explore how therapeutic strategies can support children experiencing anxiety, in relation to the past Covid-19 pandemic. As well as this, this research aimed to investigate the different ways early years professionals working to support children’s
mental health, approach this topic and what their understanding of anxiety is. This research also identified ways that the Covid-19 may have changed practice and what can be done to support children after the pandemic. The chosen methodology for this research was qualitative. The method of data collection was interviews, conducted with six participants. The questions asked were semi-structured with sub-themed questions listed to allow for further detailed explanations from participants. The literature review is structed with themes which reflect the research question, such as social, personal, and emotional development and Covid-19. Within the methodology chapter, thematical analysis was used to analyse the interview data. The main finding of this research project is that anxiety strategies can make a significant improvement to the lives of young children, if they are given the right tools and access to support. All participants agree that there needs to be more childhood anxiety support, especially due to the impact of the pandemic. In terms of future research proposals, anxiety interventions should be further explored for young children to prevent declining mental health in the future.
