Abstract
The research aim and purpose of this project is to evaluate the effect of remote
working over employee motivation at NTT Fleet in 2023 to provide recommendations
for a strategy that improves employee motivation when working remotely. Data is
conducted using a self-administrated questionnaire and semi-structured interviews
amongst the employees at the Fleet UK branch of NTT. The questionnaire was sent
to 215 employees and had 107 responses alongside six employee interviewees.
Both research methods asked questions regarding employee’s remote working
experiences to understand motivation levels. The result of the analysis concluded
there is a slight positive correlation between employee motivation and remote
working. Employees are motivated when remote working at NTT Fleet. Positive
factors that affect motivation when remote working included increase in work-life
balance, communication with manager/ colleagues and free time. However, negative
factors of remote working that affected motivation were loneliness/ isolation and
unproductiveness. Although bonuses and enjoying your work were actions
employees believed would increase their motivation when remote working, further
investigation is needed around individuals’ personalities to determine what makes
employees enjoy their work. This research provides insight and contributes to
existing literature about the effect remote working has on employee motivation.
