Abstract

The aim of this project is to understand what the current crisis in early years employment is and how this is impacting the sector as a whole gaining perspectives from those within the workforce and those who have recently left. This triangulated study uses both qualitative and quantitative research methods for data collection. Participants included early years practitioners who have chosen to leave the sector for varied reasons. Most common themes were linked to pay, and unrealistic standards set by legislation. Additionally, a group of early years managers have taken part within this research to gather a deeper perspective into their views on the current employment crisis. The study found common themes amongst the participants as to why the employment crisis continues to grow across the sector. Strong evidence concludes how government involvement and current policies are considered ineffective towards the sector. All participants felt that appreciation to the sector is minimal in addition to limited funding which is having huge implications on the sector.
