Abstract
The following research project explored the representation of race in children’s picture books and the impact these books can have on different children. The information was gathered from one school with participants consisting of six class teachers and six Key Stage 1 pupils, through the means of questionnaires, interviews, and field notes. The findings suggested that teachers do not have enough knowledge of, or access to, racially diverse picture books which restricts pupils from learning about the wider world and having resources they are able to relate to. The research concludes by emphasising the importance of teacher education around racially diverse books and having a consistent supply of these within primary schools.
