Abstract
The aim of this independent project is to investigate how free flow play is used in Early Years settings. The study was conducted using six semi structured interviews with practitioners from a nursery setting. The main findings from this study suggest practitioners have a strong awareness of how to implement and support it. It was also found practitioners understand there are both benefits and challenges in using free flow play. The benefits which were found include, children having the freedom to practice skills without the pressure from adults. The main challenges discovered were practical barriers such as the weather and the children’s feeling about participating in free flow play.
