Abstract

This study aimed to investigate Nannies experiences when settling with a new family. The researcher was interested in exploring the complexities of this unique working relationship to gain a more in-depth insight into how it is developed from the onset. In researching this area of the childcare sector, the researcher is hopeful that it will provide Nannies and Parents with useful information that can help with future working relationships.
The research was conducted using a qualitative research methodology, and semi-structured interviews were used to gather rich data from participants. A thematic approach was applied to analyse the data and present the findings under the key themes identified.
The main findings demonstrated that although each participants experiences were unique, they had all adopted similar methods to develop a positive working relationship with parents from the very beginning. The skills to communicate effectively were a key finding from each interview and developing these skills had improved and strengthened the Nannies confidence when discussing issues with Parents.
