Abstract

Project Y is a four-week intensive dance training programme for dancers aged 16 to 21 delivered by YDance (Scottish Youth Dance). Each year YDance selects up to 25 dancers from an audition process to spend four weeks during summer creating, rehearsing and touring venues in Scotland as the Project Y Company.

Vortex
Performed by the 2015 Project Y Company
We started the work by creating solos that explore 'truisms', creating short movement portraits of ourselves. Structurally and architecturally the piece explores the idea of vortex, from intricate duets, solos and group sections the dance accelerates, dancers gradually get pulled into and out of the vortex occasionally leaving a solo dancer on stage.
