Abstract

Background
The Active Sussex Coaching Bursary provided 75% funding support towards a NGB Level 1 or Level 2 coaching qualification from 2011-2015. The project aimed to increase participation for 14-25 year olds by providing financial support for coaches undertaking level 1 and 2 coaching qualifications – and ensuring that they evidenced a 6-8 week coaching programme for young participants. In order to assess the impact of the programme, Active Sussex commissioned the University of Chichester to undertake an evaluation project. This evaluation was completed though interviews with five coaches that had received bursary funding.

Impact
The impact of the report was significant, in terms of the findings from the research and the wider coaching delivery coordinated by Active Sussex. This approach to reporting impact on coaching delivery has been praised by key external partners such as Sport England and sports coach UK. As a consequence of receiving this report a mentoring scheme has been developed to support coaches delivering in the Sportivate lottery funded project
