Abstract

Staff turnover in the United Kingdom hospitality sector has reached systemic crisis proportions, with annual attrition averaging 52 per cent more than double the cross-sector average of 34 per cent (CIPD, 2024; RotaCloud, 2024). Within Butlin's Bognor Regis, owned since September 2022 by the Harris Family Trust following its acquisition from Blackstone-backed Bourne Leisure for approximately £300 million (Blackstone, 2022), the Buffet Department represents the organisation's most acute concentration of people management failure. Internal data for 2025 document an annual turnover rate of 79.5 per cent 53 per cent above the already elevated hospitality sector norm with 66 per cent of all departures classified as controllable and 17 per cent of new starters leaving within 90 days.
