Abstract
Welcome to this volume on youth sport coaching, participation, and development. After this introductory chapter, the chapters collected here bring together five interconnected papers that explore some of the most pressing and enduring questions facing contemporary youth sport: how participation can be maintained, how coaching practice can be improved, how talent and development are understood, and how evidence-based philosophies can better support young people in sporting environments. This is particularly important given the vast numbers of young people involved in sport and the equally large number of adults who support their participation, who whilst often highly motivated and committed, may not always possess the breadth of knowledge required to work effectively with young people.
