Abstract

This study explores how late adolescent football fans (aged 18–24) have changed their consumption patterns of football content, focusing on the shift from traditional media to digital and social media platforms such as YouTube, podcasts, and fan-driven content. Through semi-structured interviews with ten self-identified football fans, thematic analysis revealed five key themes: a preference for short-form content, divided attention due to competing digital entertainment, nostalgia for a more expressive era of football, a shift from institutional to fan-led coverage, and the inaccessibility of live football due to high costs and fragmented broadcasting. The findings are analysed using the Theory of Planned Behaviour, illustrating how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control influence content consumption. The study highlights the growing importance of authenticity, convenience, and affordability in engaging young football audiences and offers actionable insights for broadcasters and clubs aiming to retain fan interest in a rapidly evolving digital media landscape.
