Abstract
To discover how effective Trump’s tweeting was I have used discourse and content analysis on a selection of his tweets from November 8th, which was election day to October 9th, a month before the election. I compiled the list of tweets through a website called Wakelet. This enabled me to condense the 133 tweets into one document. The broader content analysis I conducted was designed to gain an overall view of the trends that occurred throughout the tweets from Trump’s account and to recognise how often words or phrases were repeated. The purpose of the discourse analysis was to understand in more depth the language that was used in the tweets and why. It was also important in identifying who tweets were aimed at and why. Both forms of analysis were important and worked alongside each other in understanding fully how Trump and his campaign team used Twitter to gain a strong political advantage and ultimately win the election.
