Abstract

This chapter explores a conceptual re-positioning through which English folk dance practice is considered as an extended form of site-specific dance performance. In particular, I discuss three examples; the Padstow ‘Oss , the Abbotts Bromley Horn Dance and the Grenoside Sword Dance in relation to their historical origins and traditions, and their reliance upon site and community to perpetuate the work.
