World War One is described as a Total War; a state of conflict where those
involved devoted all of their available resources to achieve victory. Such
resources included; industry, government, the press, civilian participation and
the resources of any colonies. The demands of World War One necessitated the
European Imperial Powers to summon the might of their Colonies to fight in
their name. It was a period that saw countries from across the globe become
directly involved in conflict that they had no direct control over. These countries
provided manpower but also essential resources such as food, money and raw
materials enabling the armed forces to maintain progress and achieve eventual
victory.
