Abstract

"global drifts" was a collaborative practice-led research project, undertaken under the auspices of "Accented Body", a large-scale multi-stranded, multi-artist, practice-led choreographic project initiated by Dr Cheryl Stock of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane in which 6 teams of artists were involved. "global drifts" was an international collaboration between choreographer Hellen Sky (Australia), Sarah Rubidge (UK), digital artist Hyojung Seo (Korea), composers Seunghye Kim (Korea) and Stan Wijnans (UK/Netherlands), and dancers Bridget Fiske (Australia and Liz Lea (Australia/UK). We established an understanding of the site as an extended body, and developed an interest in establishing a performative connectivity between the digital imagery, individual performance sites at QUT, and a flowing cartography between the performers, audience, architectural screens, built and natural environments and the other participating artists. At the same time, we explored the notion of the 'accented' human body at a more micro level, by emphasizing in the choreography (digital and live) the flow of movement within the body at cellular, muscular and motional levels. This is an interim report, written about a year into the development of the "global drifts' event.
