Zanotti, M. (2007) Wipe Out/Edges. [Shows/Exhibitions]

This item forms part of an iterative process of research begun in 1997 on light, illusion, and the frame. I created a series of works reflecting on these themes in performances, screendance and performance installation; my practice interrogating the relationship between reading a work and its context (live art/dance, film/performance, studio/gallery). I selected this item from a series of interconnected works exemplifying the rhizomatic nature of studio practice, where insights/ outcomes lead to further unpredictable insights/ developments. This solo, choreographed and performed by me, was re-conceived from a document of a 1997 performance, and re-considered in relation to the screenwork, 'Wipe Out' (2003), whose montage revealed something that the live work could not: the body in the process of change as it disappeared out of light through rapid edits. In response to this, the 2007 live work was re-choreographed and edited putting a greater emphasis on stillness as a gap.
