Abstract
This dissertation is the first three chapters of a Young adult fiction novel. Just Drive is a coming of age novel, centred around freedom and identity. These beginning chapters provide the basis for the novel’s overall road trip narrative. The story explores personal journeys, contrasting characters, conflicting interests, social connections, and disconnections. The novel follows Celeste and Archer, who decide to leave their hometown and take to the road.
Along with this is an essay which attempts to uncover why road trip narratives are so well renowned. The essay discusses the literary device of the road trip in the context of teenage psychology, concentrating on the works of the novelist John Green.
