Abstract

This research problem is in relation to the professional skills gained in Higher Education
Event Management Programmes across the UK. Event Management has increased across
the UK and is said to be ‘one of the largest and fastest growing sectors of the global
economy’ (QAA, 2016). Due to this there are now a large number of Event Management
Programmes within the UK in order to teach students the correct skills needed within the
industry. The Universities and College Admissions Service (UCAS, 2018) states that there are
88 institutions across the UK offering 309 undergraduate courses. Event Management
Programmes draw upon other areas of study such as Psychology, Design, Law, Geography,
Sociology and Political Sciences. Many of institutions offer Event Management as a core
subject with others offering it alongside other subjects such as business or Hospitality (QAA,
2016). Some universities offer the course under the title of Event Management while others
offer it under another name while offering the same modules as a generic Event
Management Degree
