The present study sought to examine the potential for resilience to be enhanced in a group of adolescence ‘at-risk’ of failing to fulfil their potential in later life through an adventure-based intervention. Participants (n=9), seven males and two females, ages 19 ± 2 years, completed Wagnild and Young’s (1993) Resilience Scale survey on three occasions, before and after a 5-day adventure-based intervention, and again, six weeks later. The findings revealed that resilience was enhanced after participants engaged in a 5-day intervention, but that this was not maintained six weeks later, despite follow-on session once a week. The data was divided into five sub categories for further analysis, perseverance, self-reliance, meaningfulness, existential aloneness and health with feelings of meaningfulness showing the most positive result. Comparisons between this and previous studies highlighted a need for further research to bridge the gap between adventure education as a tool for enhancing resilience and dealing with adolescence who face adversity.
