Abstract

Motivation to conduct this research stems from my efforts to ‘do it my way’, and think for myself. This requires a disregard of discourse of derision. Sadly, I am continuously immersed in tales of buried and challenged philosophies and told, by teachers themselves, not to go into teaching because I will not be able to teach in the way I wish. As a result, this small-scale study seeks to explore qualified teachers’ philosophy, how this changes over their career, if at all, and whether this philosophy supports them in times of challenge. The biographical research was conducted in an inner city school on the South coast of Hampshire with three teachers at different points in their career.
