Publication Type: Patents
Additional Information: Originality: This patent was awarded following evaluation against existing patents and information in the public domain worldwide. It addresses kinetic impact measurement in sport, which is difficult due to the need for the impacting surface to allow injury avoidance at impact, yet measures are correct without surface absorbance or reduced by recoil movement, eg punchbag impact., Rigour: Multidirectional impacts considered, eg boxing upper cut punches and kicks in karate have predominant force upwards, not straight., Significance: Develops from previous work at Chichester which provided the first punch force measures in dynamic boxing (Smith(M) RA2 outputs 1, 3). Prototype/industrial development ongoing.
