Abstract

Research shows that the platforms within social media networks have helped
form the digital world that is the 21st century. Social media is a tool, used by
the majority of people, for the main purpose of communication but it also aids
businesses in promoting their brand whilst gaining customer awareness.
There is very little research in relation to the effects of social media within the
cut flower industry, which is why this subject was selected; the researcher
will also be employed by Sussex Roses upon graduation.
The research findings sought to understand social media habits and the
influence these had on purchasing behaviours, specifically within the cut
flower industry. The researcher also wanted to understand the changing
nature within the wedding and event industry, with these findings specifically
being taken forward after graduation.
The research questions were structured upon the ideas formulated in the
conceptual matrix. This ensured that questions were based upon gaps within
existing literature that would be relevant to Sussex Roses, whilst following a
logical sequence.
After the research was completed, it was concluded that customers want to
engage in a positive relationship on social media platforms with a brand, and
this will increase the likelihood of purchase. It was also found that a
smartphone is the modern-day bride’s wedding planner, meaning that
Sussex Roses website and social media needs to be kept up to date with the
latest trends.
