Abstract

This study examines the ways that a codified method of jazz
education is stifling the originality and creativity amongst the jazz
musicians it produces, specifically looking at the jazz education
system in America. Through historical documents and research, this
study will look at the history of the jazz education system,
highlighting the pedagogical methods used throughout the history of
jazz. This study will then outline the problems found within a codified
method of jazz education, and will find out if there is a solution to the
problems.
