Abstract

Procrastination can be destructive for an individual’s psychological and physical health. The current study aims to explore whether mindfulness, combined with implementation intentions, might influence a reduction in passive procrastination. Participants (N= 148) were randomized to one of four conditions following a 2 (mindful breath vs. mindful body scan) x 2 (implementation intention vs. no implementation intention) between subjects design. Results reported non- significant for both interventions, and their interaction. However, results did suggest that those who were high in dispositional procrastination, low in mindful attention awareness and low in psychological flexibility, procrastinated significantly more at follow-up. The insignificant results may have been due to the usability of the mindful exercises, therefore adapting this for future research is recommended. Although no significant effects were found, this study was one of the first to explore its hypotheses. Therefore replication, with adjustments, is advised, as they may produce significant results.
