Created for and with National Youth Dance Company Scotland Re|place took
the idea of spatial rearrangement as a starting point, the ways in which a
group can replace itself in space or be moved on by another or how contact
made between one dancer and another can be replaced on the body. As a
result the choreography takes on an action and reaction quality, a movable
breathable space that reminds us of our social interactions in everyday life.

Working with a group of young dancers, the work also examines the theatrical
and emotional resonances associated with replacement or displacement, with
particular reference to their Scottish identity and as a number of company
members have moved away from home for the first time. The work asks
question regarding representation, belonging, home, and identity both real and
imagined. What is it that they miss, what is it that they take with
them or hold on to. The piece focuses on the members of the company’s
experience and primarily the body as a living reactive environment
