Abstract

This research explores diversity in the higher education by focussing on student diversity at
the University of Chichester. The research investigate the attitudes, views and perception of
students towards student diversity. From this the researcher aimed to determine if the
University of Chichester student community values diversity, are aware of different university
equality, diversity and inclusion policies, experience of diversity practices and if they are
satisfied with how the university manage diversity. The research met its aims by consulting
relevant existing literature and gathering primary data using an online questionnaire with an
aim of understanding what students think about diversity and their experience of diversity. A
number of key findings were identified: equality, diversity and inclusion issues are seen by
students as the responsibility of all the students and are central to all aspects of university
student community, students at the university considers the student population to neither
inclusive or exclusionary and views and perceptions of how the university manages equality
and diversity are mainly positive. The main conclusion the researcher draw from the findings
is that the University of Chichester is place that embrace, celebrate and respects equality,
diversity and inclusion and accept people for who they are.
