Abstract

This paper discussed the business perceptions and understanding of using local
food. It also discussed the factors and challenges of local food from businesses
perspective. The literature has provided that using local food has both challenges
and opportunities for local economy as well as tourism businesses. It also
highlighted the importance of local food within the sustainable tourism.
A questionnaire sent out to hospitality and accommodation sector businesses to gain
an understanding of the factors and challenges. The factors are included personal
concerns, financial benefit to local community and quality of visitor experience.
Moreover, the challenges are included price, availability and promotion of local food.
Recommendations are made to increase the development of local food and
overcome challenges, which include more marketing and communications with local
producers.
